Fuerteventura is Spain's second-largest of the Canary Islands. It sits in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately one hundred kilometers to the northern coast of Africa. Fuerteventura is a part of the North Africa region, and its capital is Puerto del Rosario.
The island has since 2009 been declared a UNESCO biosphere reserve. It is home to one of the world's most beautiful holiday destinations, complete with white sandy beaches, rows, and rows of palm trees, and picturesque turquoise blue waters. Cliffs, beautiful coves, and rocks on its shores add to the beauty of the island. Constant breezes and warm air keep the island mild and tolerable throughout the year.
Fuerteventura is famous for being an excellent spot for water activities. All kinds of water sports like swimming, diving, windsurfing, waterskiing, fishing, and even sailing are everyday activities around the island. Visitors take to the beautiful views of whales, dolphins, and turtles, among other marine animals.
Other activities include hiking on the famous Tindaya Mountain and passing the time over a game in the several magnificently manicured golf courses in Fuerteventura.
The island is home to stunning architecture as featured in the ancient Caleta de Fuste Castle and the intricately designed Parish of Santa Maria de Betancuria. The hilly surroundings of the island, the beautiful rocky shores, and the numerous dunes form a larger part of the tourist attractions for the beautiful island.

When to visit Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura experiences a hot desert climate that is Köppen classified as BWh, along with most of the other Canary Islands. Generally, the weather is pleasant all year round, devoid of the extreme summer scorch and the winter chill. The weather is regulated by the sea, diverting the hot desert winds away from the island, the reason why Fuerteventura is said to have 'eternal spring' weather.
Summer experiences temperature highs averaging 28°C (82.4°F) and lows of 20°C (68°F). Even with the hot sun, summer feels a lot cooler than registered, owing to the cool breezes from the sea. The days remain dry as most of the rainfall is received during the other seasons.
Winter is warm and pleasant, with the temperature occasionally hitting highs of 22°C (71.6°F) and lows averaging 15°C (59°F). The days may become moderately rainy, albeit in minimal amounts. December registers the highest rain of 26mm (1") harvested from approximately sixteen rainy afternoons.
Autumn and spring remain warm and pleasant. The spring blossoms and the fall during autumn are some of the enjoyable times to be outdoors in Fuerteventura owing to the beauty they bring. Picnicking and photography are common during the seasons.
The island of Fuerteventura is a lovely place to visit virtually throughout the year. This is due to warm weather, ample sunshine on most days, and days that are windy and dry for an excellent time for its numerous outdoor and water adventures. The tourist season peaks during summer, between June and September. August is primarily known for the vast crowds of tourists as it falls within the summer holiday breaks.
Events in Fuerteventura include the Fuerteventura Music Festival that is held in June, attracting participants and spectators from far and wide. The International Kite Festival is held in November and is the biggest event on the island, featuring beautiful displays of themed kites and other aerial shows.
